What Philanthropy Means to Me
Throughout my professional and volunteer career, I have had the privilege of witnessing philanthropy up-close. With each encounter I have learned the decision to give is deliberate and personal.
When I was younger, I heard the word ‘charity’ used a lot. While I didn’t fully understand its meaning, it felt depressing and somewhat humiliating.
Today I realize the more accurate word is “philanthropy.” And, Philanthropy is not designed to diminish or demean anyone. It is a conscious decision to advocate for solutions to systemic problems that affect people around the world.
From my prism, philanthropy is dynamic! And, it is here to stay.
The best philanthropy is constantly in search of the finalities—a search for a cause, an attempt to cure evils at their source.
